arrived they saw workers feet. he was in the trench and covered with concrete, metal and roofing material. >> respond ers say the man had no vital signs so there was no need to rush to uncover him. investigators with the prosecutor's office and osha started to collect information to make sure that this was nearly an accident, and make sure all safety standards are followed. >> they had all of the permits, they had insurance, bonding and those types things. company doing the the work, so it was an authorized. >> reporter: by mid afternoon victim's body was removed but investigation to find out what went wrong at demolition site continues. >> up until this point it was very successful, that this is what was happening, today but we will deal with that. >> reporter: right now you there are additional, pieces offencing being put in place to make sure that this cities very secured, that nobody gets anyone close to the remaining demolition site, and as far as the second person, in the

hospital, the authorities say they had chest pains and was taken to kennedy hospital in cherry hill for precaution. live, i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks very much. a man is dead, five others are injured, and, thrown from the pick up that overturn on the expressway this happened this morning, near exit 22 in hamilton township. investigators say that three people were in the cab of that truck, three others in the bed, and when it went out of control. morgan has been transferred to a undisclosed rehab billtation center. morgan is expect to be there for a couple of weeks. he was critically injured in the multi car crash on the new jersey turnpike, earlier this month, and an accident that killed his friend, james

mcnair. looking at weather, beautiful day. it will be a gorgeous friday evening. will we see a wonderful weekend? meteorologist kathy orr joining us from the cbs-3 sky deck with the first word on the forecast for the weekend, kathy. >> it is going to be a really nice evening, at least it will start in a great way, jessica. we have seen blue skies, a few high clouds, and that is just about it. just a comfortable air mass sitting over us, but, of course, that is subject to change. high temperatures in philadelphia, so far, making it into the 80's. 81 degrees on this last day of spring, normal high 84. the record being 100 on this date. as we look ahead the the evening will be comfortable, falling through the 70's during the evening, with just a light breeze, and low humidity. we are watching some showers, and thunderstorms to the west, progress eastward. we are not expecting anything major here but we can watch late tonight, the clouds will be rolling in with our future weather and during the the morning hours, showers very

close. there is a threat of rain, at least for part of the weekend. so, coming up, we will talk about those weekend showers and, the best time to be outside. we also have a sunny stretch in that seven day, i'll have that coming up as well, late inert broadcast. >> looking forward to that kathy, thanks very much. developing news right now police in bensalem are investigating a deadly hit and run accident. a man was hit and killed walk ago long the 4100 block of bristol pike last night. lets turn to "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter live at the scene where investigators are piecing together clues. walt? >> reporter: well, yellow police tape seals off backyard of the home in bensalem just a few blocks from the scene of a fatal hit/run accident last night. police throughout the last three hours here are searching for possible evidence. uniformed officers, detectives, crime scene tape, were clearly visible only a few blocks from the busy lanes of bristol pike, where around

6:30, thursday evening, a man identified as vincent perry of philadelphia, was killed, by a hit/run driver. investigators, busy looking for possible evidence, leading to the car, and driver. >> we're hearing something like that especially something so close to my bed, it effects me and my barbers inside too. >> reporter: don suarez who owns a barber shop said he was approached by detectives who were hoping his video surveillance system, might have captured images of the car leaving the scene. >> they looked up, hoping to find a culprit and, i hoped that they do find him. >> i felt really bad. we were having an event here and there was a lot of people, here looking up on to the bridge. and then we heard that the gentlemen passed away. >> reporter: patty, owner of the bed and breakfast adjoining the bridge watched police activity at the scene. while it is not known what led investigators to this property, blocks away and while no one living here has been charged with any crime,

she says that it is sad that a driver could simply run someone down on this busy bridge and speed away. >> i don't know how you anybody can do that but it is unfor the nate. >> reporter: now, as the search moves forward, bensalem police say that they are very, very eager to hear from any eyewitness who might have seen this in the southbound lanes of the 4100 block of bristol pike, around 6:30 last night. if you have information, call bristol -- call bensalem township police immediately. live from bensalem bucks county i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> walt, thanks very much. a day after philadelphia city council voted to downgrade penalty for marijuana possession, pope francis condemned any legal says of recreational drugs. the pontiff told the audience at a drug enforcement conference in meeting in rome quote the problem of drug use is not solved with drugs, he said that the people need to say yes, to life, love, education and opportunities so there will be no room for

issued tickets in the city. >> majority of them are in the affirmative and bill passes. >> reporter: that bill prompted a major change in philadelphia's marijuana laws. police will be able to write a $25 citation to a person in possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana. they can still rest if they choose but the bill's proponent hope they won't and keep small offenses off of criminal records. >> i don't think someone who does something at a youth knuckle headedness which we all made mistakes should pay with that mistake for a criminal record forever. >> reporter: given philadelphia's liberal leaning is it is not surprising. we found many people happy with the new law. >> it is great. it is a small amount of money and people can move on. >> i think a ticket is fine for that type of infraction. people do dumb things in public all the time and they get a ticket for it. >> reporter: not everyone is happy with the new law, some say that the $25 fine ties low, at the same amount, for example would you pay for

letting weeds grow, you could face a 50-dollar fine for public urine nation and hundred dollars fines for running a red light n fact you could pay up to $300, for opening container violations. city councilman dennie o'brien voted against the bill saying it supersedes state law. fit is illegal at the state capitol he says it should be illegal here too. >> if you want to make this a summary offense you have to go to harrisburg to do. that it create is a lot of administrative issues. >> reporter: the mayor has not said if he will sign the bill. if he vetoes it, sources say that veto will be overturned by city council. so while we're not sure when the law will be implemented, it looks like it is here to stay. matt rivers, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". water main burst today flooding streets in south philadelphia, water gushed on to oregon avenue between second and third streets after a 12-inch main ruptured. philadelphia soft pretzel factory location did have water in the basement and water had to be pumped out of the basement of the home on saint christopher drive. >> we opened the door and there all of the water was.

shore. lets take a look, traveling on i-95, this would be if you are traveling in the northbound direction of i-95, this is a delay trying to get towards the walt whitman bridge. heading down the the shore lets just say, from the walt, up and over down 492 freeway it will be a very slow ride. if you are traveling southbound i-95, catch a break around south philadelphia but run into more volume approaching the area of delaware county as you do every day. also, i-95 in either direction between vine street expressway and would i say northeast philadelphia is jammed. as a result, northbound i-95 delay check out how it is backing up vine street expressway. on top of volume we are seeing on the ben franklin bridge, traveling east bound into new jersey. we have construction out there and it is blocking right-hand lane and which is, all adding to the volume we're seeing on that eastbound side of the vine. westbound on the vine we are not seeing really any major problems. ten is your average on the schuylkill expressway. schuylkill is lit up in red. traveling on the pennsylvania turnpike maybe heading towards the poconos this weekend, well, you will find volume

this is how you kick off the summer weekend, officially sum they are weekend. >> um-hmm. >> you had a special visitor. >> getting ready for dog days have of summer, yes. first we will take a look down the shore which is a great place to jump start the weekend, very busy down the shore, look at the beach. this is how it was supposed to be, ocean city, cape may county, looking live through skies cam three, a great beach day, tomorrow not so much. sunday will be great as well. i emphasize dogs because did you know, that today was, take your dog to work day, and there is my dog, where it has been our oldening establish sleep dog working with steve our producer in the weather center. >> is there dog hair all over the weather center. >> magic of our art department

she same today. i hope you had a great take your dog to work day. lets look at the spring highlights because today is the last day of spring, here is a look at the memorable moments. in march we had, temperatures that were below average, and it still felt like winter. april, precipitation, above average, over 3 inches above. that was a very wet month. and, by may, temperatures above average, precipitation below average, getting a little bit more comfortable but it really hasn't been until june, that it has felt like spring and now it almost feels like we're jumping into summer. the first 90-degree day was june 17th just a few days ago, and it was latest first 90-degree over a decade. tomorrow, summer begins, early in the morning at 6:51. it will be cool, cloudy, but fairly uneventful. lets take a look at the temperatures. right now in philadelphia 81. eighty-two in millville. seventy-nine in allentown. seventy-one in the poconos.

dew point is true amount of moisture in the atmosphere. we will see due you points in the 40's and 50's. bone dry, absolutely no humidity and that is how it is this afternoon. much different story, when compared to yesterday. we will watch this area of low pressure, swiftly move to our south, and during the the day on saturday, it could come close enough, to bring us a scattered shower through the region especially in our southwestern area places like, wilmington, even southern parts of the chester county, possibly philadelphia, temperatures in the 70's more easterly wind. cool. sunday high pressure blocks that to the south, temperatures back in the 80's. it will be a really nice day. monday the same with high temperatures in the 80's and plenty of sunshine. it looks like the the second half of the weekend will be a better bet. so for your saturday some sun, showers. seventy-six down the shore. sunday looking better with plenty of sunshine, high temperature is 77. overnight tonight, temperatures will be in the 60's, during the day tomorrow, in the 70's, once again, a chance of a stray shower, and

show and improved filtering system that makes water clear for better hippo viewing. they also have some unusual roommates too, including an african crusted porkie pine. he would have been a neighbor in the wild. >> they get alone. in fact, porkie pine will dominate the hippos. they will come up and he will flare up and let him know i'm here and then they walk away like we're done. >> reporter: buttons and jenny pass the day taking part in enrichment exercises which brings out their unique personality. >> jenny is usually right there and buttons, she gets bored, buttons will sit down when she's bored and walk away from frustrates. so, never did we think in a million year they would have that different of a personality. >> reporter: once the food comes out, they are ready to work. >> poor little things are starving to death, look at them. >> reporter: they let me help out with one activity. the girls are supposed to move over to where glassies being tapped. >> over here, come on, jenny. >> reporter: if they do they are rewarded with a whistle

i'm chris may, here are some of the day top stories for you, one person died, another is injured as a building under demolition collapses in cherry hill camden county. the investigators are trying to figure out how that happened. "eyewitness news" has confirmed that a second person has now died, four others injured, when they are thrown from a pick up that overturned on the atlantic city expressway. this happened this morning near exit 22 in hamilton township. thirty-five year-old james dennis, and a four year-old girl died in that crash.

of those who survived one is in critical condition, three others are in serious condition. tracie morgan is out of the hospital tonight and in a rehab facility. actor's publicist says morgan is expected to remain there for the next few weeks. he, of course, was critically injured in the multi vehicle crash on the new jersey turnpike in which his close friend was killed. kathy? weather this evening clouds will be on the increase but it will be a slow progression at 7:00 o'clock 76 degrees. low humidity by nine. seventy-three. by 11:00 p.m. partly cloudy, 69. good sleeping weather. it will not stay that way, some showers moving in for part of the weekend, i will that have part of the story with the seven day later in the broadcast, jessica. president obama is putting pressure object iraq's prime minister to end the insurgency that could tear that country apart alfonso van marsh shows us the plan to promote peace. >> iraqi military recruits are training for duty as fellow troops fight sunni militants

who are taking over parts of the northern iraq. this volunteer says that this is our country, we will fight them, and kick them out. sunni extremist are vowing to set up an islamic state in the region. president obama is concerned about u.s. national security. he is sending secretary of state john kerr toy europe and middle east this weekend for talks on how to defeat the the insurgency. the the the president is also dispatching up to 300 military advisors to help coordinate the the battle but not engage in combat. washington is pushing iraq's shiite prime minister nori al-maliki to establish a moan inclusive government to over throw the crisis but rival leaders say it is time for the prime minister to go. >> he says, u.s. policy just can't rely on a paralyzed man who has lost control of iraq. about 150 miles north of baghdad iraqi troops are battling insurgents for control of the largest oil refinery for a second day now.

the irs commissioner john cokcannon tried to explain lost e-mails from lewis learner, the irs executive in the center of the probe. she's exercised her fifth amendment rights and refused to testify. learner's computer reportedly crashed in 2011, destroying tens of thousands of e-mails. the irs said that happened two weeks before she learned tea party groups were getting extra scrutiny. >> do you know where the actual hard drive is that crashed. >> after it was determined it was dysfunctional and with experts, no e-mails could be retrieved, was recycled and destroyed in the normal process. >> sitting here listening to this testimony, i just, i don't believe it. that is your problem. nobody believes you. >> fbi is now investigating and, g.o.p. is calling for a special prosecutor. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane plans to release a report on monday about how authorities handled the jerry sandusky investigation. the criminal case against

sandusky began in late 2008. nearly three years passed before the former penn state coach was arrested. kane has suggested governor tom corbett who was the attorney general there had a political motivation to slow down the investigation while running for governor. corbett denies that claim. new jersey governor chris christie was in washington today to speak at the faith and freedom coalition road to majority policy conference. the republican says they should stand up for what they believe in. he explains why he never hid the fact that he was pro life while running for governor. >> i told people from new jersey i knew many would consider voting for me and disagreed with me on this issue but that they had a right to know what was in my heart. because when you know what is in someone's heart you have a window into how they will lead. >> governor christie went on to say that the republican party should not continue to allow itself to be punching bags and argued democrats are the ones whether or not opened to different ideas, and not

republicans. good evening, everyone, would i just say as a rule of thumb right new where ever you are heading you'll find some sort of volume, so make sure you fill up at the tank before you head out on the highway. we are looking at 476, right on top of the schuylkill expressway. 476 northbound pretty heavy between 76 and mid county tolls, even heavier once you get there because of delays on the pa turnpike and northeast extension, mainly northbound but as i step out of the way you can see some of that volume moving on the schuylkill itself. best thing toys give yourself some more time. heading down the shore, well, traveling southbound side of i-95 will not be easy from approaching columbus boulevard through here at the entrance of packer and the bridge. even before you get there you will find volume on i-95 southbound between academy and vine, northbound i-95 expect delays approaching walt whitman bridge and then speaking of the bridge, you're jammed all the way up and over and down 42 freeway, southbound 42 is very slow.

well, a steer, headed to the slaughter house apparently decided it was in the his time to go and made a break for it. camera captured the animal running throughout streets of baltimore, drivers there probably couldn't believe what they were seeing. they called 911 and they just released called show

necessarily have a favorite team or anything but he just loves the sport. up next, take a look at this mug shot, it is getting a lot of reaction. his model looks don't make him a model citizen this is a mug shot of the 30 year-old jeremy meets making round on social media and internet. many are saying he is a hunk and an alleged criminal. he faces weapons and charges but still more than 36,000 people have like his photo, on facebook. what do you think about that. up next, watch this, a life saving leap, a florida man certainly lucky to be alive after this nasty accident caught on tape but it is how michael smith reacted after his motorcycle slammed in the car that has people talking. he does a midair cart wheel, then another, after his feet hit and then just starts walking. >> i had to brace for impact because i knew there was in way i was dodging it, laying down the bike. i just let it all go from there. i felt like the matrix. >> he looks like it. >> he is fine.

pool, the first kids to jump in, jumped in at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon. watch this, this is when the kid first went in the pool. pool just opened. this is first in the pool to open. the the rest of them. there are 70 in the city. they will all open by the next ten days, july 1st they are all opened. they are opened seven days a week, machine through friday, from 11:00 to 7:00 and weekend noon to 5:00. they have everything going object. they have summer camps, water aerobics, public swims, family swims. and what is really nice is a lot of the kids that use these pool they will come every single day. this is their summer vacation. they don't go to the shore or travel with their families on vacation. their parents are working. this is where they come, these pools are opened, now, again, all over the city, completely opened by july the first, and this is absolutely ideal, it cost 2.3 million for city to open these pools.

"eyewitness news", new jersey reporter cleve bryan, live at the scene with what authorities are saying tonight , cleve. >> reporter: within the last half an hour we did get a release from the prosecutor's office. they are still withholding the name of the victim as well as company involved with the demolition here. this happened around where you see that backhoe and part of the wall demolish. authorities say they arrived within minutes but the victim was already dead. >> authorities say it was a chaotic scene around 12:30 when they arrived at route 38 demolition site a man was covered in rub well only his feet visible and backhoe operator he was working with was complaining of chest pains. >> they were working on taking the last part of the building down when the collapse occurred. we don't know exactly how or why it occurred. >> reporter: according to the officials, the work was 90 percent done tearing down the video store. rescuers found the worker who died in the trench and covered with conet
